President Joe Biden signed a sweeping $750 billion health, tax and climate bill at the White House on Tuesday, Aug. 16 — a major victory for his administration and the Democratic Party in the run-up to the midterm elections.

The bill establishes several key legislative agenda items from Biden, representing the largest climate investment in U.S. history and making major changes to health care policy. It will raise more than $700 billion in government revenue in 10 years and spend more than $430 billion to reduce carbon emissions and expand health insurance subsidies under the Affordable Care Act. The rest of the new revenue will be used to reduce the deficit.

Biden said the legislation, called the Inflation Reduction Act, is “one of the most important laws in our history.”
