Social gaming platform INK raises nearly $19 million in funding

Austin-based startup INK Games has announced that it has raised $18.75 million in its latest fundraising round. It plans to use this funding to build out its platform, as well as its Prize Kingdoms mobile game.

This marks INK’s second round of funding as it raised $9.5 million last September. The company’s platform is a social and Web3 trading network, which allows users to take advantage of their reach. The INK Pay system pays users for their level of influence and audience engagement.

Robert Towles, INK’s CEO and co-founder, told GamesBeat about what INK brings to the world of mobile gaming: “INK Games provides the only platform where billions of users can be paid for playing games and referring others. Our technology allows users to integrate their full connectivity and social reach – and monetize their viral reach forever.”

Towles added that the mobile market is currently not offering enough to users: “A few years ago, mobile casual gamers wanted in-game incentives. Now they understand the tremendous value they bring – and they expect to be paid. The roles are reversed: soon worthless incentives won’t make it. Users want a meaningful share of the revenue. In fact, billions of people are now realizing that they have a huge influence through their social media, connections and followers. They want to handle this profitably and easily.”

Prize Kingdoms

The new release from INK Games is Prize Kingdoms, a “unique twist on the casual board games category”. The studio is testing the game in regions ahead of an expected launch later this year.

Josh Gause, INK’s CCO and co-founder, told GamesBeat about the response to Prize Kingdoms so far. “Users play every day and often log several hours of playtime. Importantly, our playtests prove that we are ‘a game for everyone’ — and will be a huge draw for the global gaming community. Engagement rates are already incredible across a variety of segments and demographics, including age and gender. Users are blown away by the competitive social features and the opportunity to win real prizes. The full release of Prize Kingdoms is scheduled for later this year and we anticipate mass market success.”
