Israel Adesanya gets his shot at revenge in one of the world’s most iconic arenas.
Adesanya’s middleweight title bout against well-known rival Alex Pereira is official for November 12 at Madison Square Garden in New York for UFC 281.
Adesanya announced the fight Friday on Sports Center.
Adesanya (23-1) and Pereira (6-1) infamously collided twice in the kickboxing ring before, with Pereira winning both matches. The Brazilian first defeated Adesanya by decision in April 2016, then viciously eliminated Adesanya in the March 2017 rematch.
Adesanya has since staked his claim as one of the best fighters in all mixed martial arts. He is currently MMA Fighting’s number 3 ranked pound-for-pound fighter in the world and is a perfect 12-0 in the middleweight division of the UFC.
In his most recent fight, Adesanya handily defeated Jared Cannonier via unanimous decision at UFC 276 to earn his fifth defense of the middleweight belt.
Pereira also fought at UFC 276 and took the biggest win of his MMA career, with Sean Strickland brutally knocked out in less than three minutes into the match to secure his trilogy fight with “The Last Stylebender”.
The win pushed Pereira to 7th in MMA Fighting’s middleweight rankings and continued his undefeated UFC run after victories over Andreas Michailidis and Bruno Silva.
“This ends here,” Adesanya tweeted Friday after the announcement. “Kill or be killed.”
