And here’s England Roses head coach Jess Thirlby talking to BBC One:
“We gave ourselves too big a mountain to climb – Australia wouldn’t let a swing like Jamaica happen again. A ten-goal margin deep into the game was a difficult question. We made it very difficult for ourselves – we thought it was difficult to early in the game to get shooting opportunities and then it turned out we wanted to try and get a turnover ball.
“You try to find that winning ball and that was a strength of ours but we struggled to find space. Thanks to Australia – they are a great team but our execution was not great, they starved us the ball that It’s really disappointing – it’s not the way you want to be prevented from reaching the final, but like all sports we have to bounce back.
“We didn’t give up, but we put ourselves in a difficult position. If you’re chasing the score, it’s not great, we were still found too light.
“They are a great team in possession – they made mistakes against Jamaica so they will have gone and cleaned them up. There’s nothing we didn’t expect, but we were too slow in leaving the shooter, Gretel Bueta went too much with the ball around and offensively we got more depth in the second half, but it’s not enough.
“We could be here all day, but that team was better than us today. We tried to find a way through it, but the clock struck us.
“Tomorrow is massive.”
